Mike earned his Master’s Degree in Electrical Engineering at the renowned McGill University in Montréal, specializing in Bulk Power & Energy Systems and working as a Research Assistant in the Energy Systems Research Laboratory in collaboration with Hydro Quebec. His graduate work focused in renewable energy implementation through the decentralization of power production, seeking to replace centralized fossil fuel based power plants with vast arrays of wind farms, solar panels, and other sustainable means of electricity generation through native energy sources.
During his time at McGill from 2009-2012, Mike served as Social Events Coordinator for Queer McGill, the primary Queer (e.g. LGBT) student society at McGill University, working to bring together a diverse population of queer (e.g. gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender) students and allies at McGill and throughout the Montreal community.
Later in 2017, Mike moved back to Montréal for a job as Program Director at CEATI International, driving business development and managing research projects in power transmission and distribution for this consortium of 200+ collaborating electric power companies around the world.
Mike reports from Concordia University in Montreal an hour before reporting to a nearby police station, mentally preparing for his unknown fate and explaining the recent criminal charges of harassment and death threats being pressed by his former employer CEATI International. He discusses his past arrest for marijuana possession and frames these events as a public lesson on navigating the legal system in Canada and the United States.
